Hydraulic Hose Crimping Machine

I'm going to look at a Couplamatic hose crimping machine in the morning.Anyone know anything about them?Do you have to use dedicated fittings for this machine,or will other brands work? Anyone know where to buy bulk hydraulic hose? Is it worth having this machine for home shop use? I have 2 farm tractors with hydraulic hoses,an old Case back-hoe with lots of hoses,an old bulldozer,2 log splitters.I guess I need some coaxing from you guys to buy it.LOL

Unless you are going to be making a lot of hoses, it can be pretty tough to justify vs. getting them made local.
Usually, you have to have a specific dye for the different series of fittings/hose.
If you do get it, it is pretty costly to stock the hose fittings because of the large amount of fittings. If you do get the fittings from someone else, you need to make sure you have the correct dyes.

Every CNC machine tool I work with has dozens of hydraulic hoses internally in addition to those used for the machining fixtures. It took several years to convince the company to by hyd hose making equipment and supplies. When they did finally buy it was top-of-the-line Parker equipment and boy is it sweet! They spent a few thousand dollars on it initially but it gets used daily so we can justify it. You are better off finding someone close buy who can make them up for you (unless you have a local market for hoses - just a thought!)

Good reasoning,
Bill

Generally the hose company wants you to get machine and dies from them - they will provide a dimension for finished crimp , which tells if it has been crimped enough or properly
Should you mix brands this dimension will probably be wrong- so no way of checking yourself

I bought a used Dayco press a couple years ago on Ebay 8) We've got lots of hydraulic hoses on the place including tractor loaders, a backhoe, Bobcat, an Iron Mule forwarder which especially likes hoses, and other misc. hydraulic powered stuff. I made up some 1/4" hoses for my Western snow plow a few days ago 8) If most of what you'll be replacing are standard hoses with male npt on both ends it's hard to beat TSC's prices even making them yourself. If you need hoses with special fittings then it's worth your money to get your own machine. The rotator motor on the Mule has 1/2" male pipe on one end and #8 JIC female on the other and the Bobcat has JIC fittings. You don't get many hoses made up at a shop for a 100 bucks  My machine has paid for itself twice now even with the cost of stocking hose and fittings. Be sure it comes with a complete set of dies. You should have dies for 1/4" thru 1".

On the smaller hydraulic hose I use Aeroquip hose and reusable fittings. I like having the tube swivel nuts on both ends as it makes it easier to install or remove. Hal
