Hydraulic lift problems

Placed a new hydraullic pump in my '51 Ford 8n. Also replaced piston in lift cover cylinder. Inspected all mechanisms in lift cover and all measurements seemed to be perfect. Before work was done the lift did not work at all. After work was done, lift worked beautifully. Attached blade this morning and lift started working just fine. When I got ready to take the blade off I could not lower it unless the lift was at the very top and then it could be lowered and stopped where I wanted it. When I raised the lift again, I had to wait until it had reached its maximum before I could lower it. Any suggestions as to what is going on?

as your "new pump" thoroughly clean in & around the ex & intake control valves? new clean oil in clean sumps? sounds like sticky valves.

hanks JMOR...I did a pretty thorough inspection of the pump and checked the intake and exhaust valves and the pistons to make sure they were operating smoothly...all this prior to installation of the pump. But I did notice that when pusing the quadrent lever down there was quite a bit of resistance. May have to drain the oil in order to check the valves. Thanks for your input.
