Hydraulic problem with JD 5210

I have a JD 5210 that has around 3000 hours and has never given me any kind of trouble on anything. My brother was looking for a smaller utility tractor just to rake hay and such. He found a JD 5210 with only 650 hours on it. Shines like it is new. He got it back in the early summer and has put maybe 50 hours on it.

The trouble is it just started losing all hydraulics in about 10-15 minutes after you start it. Changed filters and check oil. The oil is clean as new. Filters had nothing in them. Nothing seems to be making any noise.

I know it is a simple open center system. I have not worked on any JD 5000 series tractor hydraulics. I have been into a couple of clutches but zero hydraulics. I have the JD tech manual and will do some reading this weekend but was just wondering if any of you had worked on any of these tractors hydraulics??? Maybe a hint at what I maybe looking for.

I'll suggest to check/clean hyd sump screen. If that doesn't correct problem then check for a faulty relief valve.

Did you get this fixed? I'm having a similar issue with a 5210. Although my problem is only the steering. It started out being very rough once it got warmed up but is now very difficult to steer upon start up. Front end loader, 3 point and brakes work fine. Oil looks like new however from previous owners records looks like there is 800 hours on oil, so I'll change oil, filter and clean screen but hate to do all that if something else is wrong and needs fixed first.

I saw your post to his problem and asked him if he'd gotten it fixed. Since my issue is limited to the steering, is there somewhere else I should be looking, like a valve or relief valve on the steering?

It's good to hear from you JD seller,,One possibility is the hydraulic oil is too heavy,, I ran into this a few years ago,,I changed it to Low Viscosity oil and every thing got right.. [email protected]

Ooh.. I knew he got upset with a few post years ago..he is very knowledgeable,,I hope to see him at the Half Centry of Progress show I myself have not been on her much lately, but only because I have been too darn busy,, I have several topics that I want to share when I can do it..I am 73 and still doing a "Bunch" of repairs here,,I enjoy the aggravation of dealing with the different problems..

Can you explain "difficult to steer"? The steering is hard, as in no POWER steering, steering seems jerky, steering wheel turns both ways but the tires don't respond. That sort of thing. An aside. If the loader, three point and remotes work okay the oil, filter, and suction screen (whatever their condition) are not part of the problem. It's more likely in the steering pump section, steering control valve, or steering cylinder. MAYBE in the spindle area, but too soon to say.
