Hydraulic pump - 1982 7710

Hi Guys,

Did a lot of work to my 1982 Ford 7710 with help from folks on the forum here.

Had a question about the gear driven, hydraulic pump on the transmission. Can these units be rebuilt? What is a good pressure test procedure?

Thanks!

Usually the housing is worn out so that even if you could find the gears, it still would not perform as needed. So a replacement unit is recommended. A worn unit might test high when cold and then quickly drop as the unit warms up a bit usually in a just a few minutes of running. Some 7710s have the mega-flow option with dual (two) pumps on them, one on the back of the engine as well as the transmission pump. IIRC the pump is spec'ed at 2500 lbs

Yes, I was afraid of that. The symptom you described about pressure when cold and lowers when hot is what I am experiencing. My 7710 has the (2) pump set up.
I will look into replacing the pump.

Thanks for your insight.
