Hydraulic pump control valve, 2N

Working on a 2N and found the crossbar and 1/2" of the valve with cotter pin laying loose behind the pump. The lift worked if I worked the valve in and out by hand. Went out later to pull the valve, and only the spring was sticking out. The valve apparently sucked into the pump. I tried a magnet, and a wire hook, but no luck. It seems to be in there a ways. Do I need to drop the pump? When it was out, it slid easily and wasn't binding or tight at all. I wondered if I put fluid back in and fired it up, if it would come out, but I don't want to have it go anywhere I can't get to it.

It's been a few years since I've been into mine, but I thought the spring pushed the valve out toward the T fork. Could the valve be laying in the bottom of the sump?

The spring is between the bar across the back, and the head of the valve, through a sleeve like piece. I have 1/2" of the stem with cotter pin and the cross bar only. The rest was sticking out, but when I went back, it had sucked inside til only the spring was left hanging out.

The valve itself was broke and the front half of the valve and the sleeve around the spring sucked back in.

This happened to my 9n a few weeks back. The cotter pin broke[?] and the valve was sucked into the pump body. I pulled the top
cover.the pump and washed everything, though it wasn't really dirty. After getting all the parts out,I put it all back together
between downpours. Lots of work, but the most aggravating part was getting the control forks around then T of the valve, but I'm
old and arthritic.

I guess I'll drop the pump and then at least I can see and maybe be able to get it out. This one wasn't nearly as nasty as some I've been in. A little old and very arthritic and then some here.

on a bad day, my arthritis effectively makes me one-handed. luckily, it's my left hand it disables, and i'm not left-handed.

so far, today seems like a good day. both hands are working :)

f you cut a piece of wood to about 3 5/8" and wedge between the forks it is much easier to get it back together. I have similar problems with arthritis and I couldn't get forks on the T without the stick.

icture is Ferguson, but almost same as Ford. Your broken part with white pointer is inserted from rear (front of tractor) of valve and the large end rests against the smaller hole in that end of valve where stem comes out, so....there is a ridge in that end of valve and a stiff wire with as maybe 1/8" right angle hook on the end may be able to pull the valve out.

I dropped it and cleaned it up. It was broken right in the middle of the slim section. The rest was under the center of the pump buried in sludge. Looked pretty clean around the pump, but caked underneath. The little bar across the back had been hanging loose on one side, and probably wasn't working for whoever used it last for some time. The ball on one end was worn flat from dragging on the bottom. I put a used valve in it and it works better than some of my other ones now..
