hydraulic pump port

Wondering if anyone has delt with this ? I replaced a hydraulic pump some time back and it works great. It is supposed to be equipped for power steering .. I am going to add power steering. Tractor wasn"t originally setup for it but with a loader added finding it needed. The pump is 376993r94 and has a allen screw on the side. I am assuming this is PS port? If so does it require a special fitting and what size.

Pretty sure the "link"between your pump and "power steering" is that it's the higher GPM pump that is used with an EXTERNAL flow divider to "split off" 3 GPM's or so for power steering.

I'm NOT sure why it would have the extra plug, but unless the pump DOES have an internal flow divider, since this an "open center" system just having a plugged port doesn't make it "ready" for power steering without an adding external parts, and, even then the plugged port wouldn't be used.

Perhaps the plug closes off a hole left from drilling an external passage during manufacturing.

I don't think it is a power steering port. Not familiar with those tractors ,though if they have an MCV the power steering would get plumbed from there.

You don't say what tractor, but the pump number is an IH part number that fits 2404, 2424, and others.

Those tractors have OPEN CENTER hydraulic systems, which means the allen plug is NOT a power steering port. It's a priming port. You remove the plug, fill the pump with oil, to prevent a dry startup.

You will need a flow divider / priority valve to provide flow for the steering.

Just wanted to say thanks to everyone for the input . Mystery solved can move ahead in the right direction. Should wrap it up next chance I have to work on it. Cylinder and orbital valve already bolted up ready for the last couple hoses.
