Hydraulic pump problems with SMTA

My SMTA has a used hydraulic pump that I bought about 3-4 years ago. It has worked fine until last week. When I bought it I was told it came off a 450. I discovered that it is leaking through the front seal and into the crankcase. My parts supplier cannot find the pump number in his book or computer. The pump number is 397082. He thinks that it is a really old number that is probably in an old parts book, but not in his. I am trying to find the proper number of seal to use. Could any one out there with an old parts book containing hydraulic pump parts please help me? This would only be for pumps fitting 450,400.SMTA, Super M,

See if the parts people can cross to the part number in the link. This is for the Thompson brand pump. As you can see it is available from IH or whatever they call themselves, so if you have a dealer nearby you could check out if that is the right one. There was also a Pesco pump IH no longer has that seal available, 356887R91 the only value of that number is to cross reference to another brand. Usually a good industrial bearing and seal business can find a replacement seal by measuring the old part or the old seal may have a number on it.

just take the old seal and measurements to any seal place and they will get you a new one

You can try a new seal but usually when they start leaking it is because your pump housing is woren and allowing the shaft to sorta flop around and beat the new seal out in short order . You can get a new replacement pump but your going to have to break into the piggy bank. Getting a new seal is easy as ya only need the O.D. and I. D. and how thick the seal is .

SKF #8842. Probably available at Napa. I used this seal in mine and works fine.

Do a search for 397082R and Maine Tractor Crossing says they have one for sale plus a little more info.
Might be a Presco.
