Hydraulic pump seal

Howdy! I have a quick question about my hydraulic pump on my 1520. It is leaking out of the front seal where the engine driven shaft goes into the pump. I will probably not be fixing this real soon however I was wondering what the difficulty in changing this seal is? I have changed many seals in my days on transmissions, engines, axle housings, and other mechanical devices. I have never messed around with a hydraulic pump. Is this just as straight forward as any other seal replacement or is there more to it? The pump itself operates just fine and has zero other leaks. Thanks for your advice!

The pump needs an overhaul, replacing the outer seal won't help much. There is an inner quadring seal that needs to be replaced. Last thing out first thing in.

How bad is a pump overhaul to a person not accustom to pump work?

I agree with matthies in that correcting shaft quad ring leak will require complete pump disassembly. Upon reassembly be sure to put pistons back in original bores.

Are you positive pump seal drain line or its connector isn't leaking?

No I am not sure. I had the coupler off that connects the pump to the engine to change the fan belt and that's when I was investigating the leak. It sure seems like it is coming from the very front of the pump where the shaft goes into it, but if there is something else I should be looking for please let me know. Like I said, I am definitely not experienced with hydraulic pumps!

Are you positive the pump seal drain line is open; not plugged or got pinched?? Take off at pump and
can you blow air through it; is it open??

I will check that, thanks for the info by the way, I actually replaced that line a year ago or so and totally forgot about it. I will inspect it and do a more thorough inspection of that area.

Line(item 15)attaches to fitting on hyd pump near the shaft & leads back to trans shifter cover. This line has a history of crinkling due to old age causing stoppage of oil flow from hyd pump back to reservoir which creates an oil leak

If replacing pumps and if the tractor currently has the small pump . This is the optional larger pump .

So, I checked out those items that y'all spoke of. They all are in good shape. The actual leak is not horrible and I will keep an eye on it for now (especially since it's very cold now!). I was hoping there was just a seal to remove and press a new one in, but it doesn't seem like that is the case. Anyways, thanks for all the replies/help as usual.
