Hydraulic question

I posted several days about converting my 3 point wrapper to trailed with its own hydraulic system. I have two prince brand pto hydraulic pumps and a tank that I purchased at an auction a few years ago. Attached is a picture of the tank that I'm hoping to use for the project.

The open bung hole was attached to the inlet line on one of the pumps. Below that is a pipe that extends down inside the tank to almost the bottom of the tank. Are the pto pumps capable of self priming or does the hydraulic fluid need to flow directly to the pump? As you can see this line is coming out the top of the tank and the tank is designed to sit with that line coming out the top. I guess my question is, is that the correct place to feed the hydraulic pump? It bigger, 3/4 vs 1/2 inch on the other bung.

As long as your PTO pump is in good condition it will happily draw oil from the tank, it shouldn't need a "flooded inlet".

I agree, but I always like to have the inlet to the pump gravity flow from the tank, if at all possible. I don’t like to pump running without oil until it sucks the oil to the pump.

I would just fill the suction line with oil before connecting it to the tank. Biggest thing is you don’t want to start the pump dry. At least give it a drink of oil in the hose before you try to prime it.
