Hydraulic repair

I've got my neighbors 8n which came from Michigan with water in the hyd. fluid and am guessing something busted from freezing because it won't raise or lower. My question is how close a match between the 35 and the 8n are the hyds.as I would like to order the dvd of the 35 rather than the n. I see in the ad for the 8n dvd that it also covers the to20 and 30.I don't know the year only that its a front mount distributor.I bet "old" will know.

The 35 and 8N are vastly different animals on the hydraulic pump. The 8N would be closest to a TO20 or TO30 but they are still different because the 8N had position control where as the Fergusons did not.The lift cylinder and piston are very similar to the Fergusons with the exception that the 8N cylinder has a notch ground on one side and it doesn't have a hole for the control fork spring like a Ferguson. Thats probably because they do not use a control fork like a Ferguson. Do all the usual checks like when checking the hydraulics on a Ferguson. Look at the lift cylinder for leaks,relief valve and etc...I do know the 8N's had a cam follower pin that will wear down and when they do you won't have hydraulics.

Hello 2tractors the pump on the 9 2 8n are the same they will fit the 20 & 30 as far as not working it just might be the relief valve with that crappy oil in there doesn't help it. What you can do take off the cover with dip stick pull out the valve with screwdriver or something long and see if it works if it does thats the issue.

s Justin Wilson used to say, "I guar-roon-tee you..." that the 9N/2N pump is NOT the same or interchangeable with the 9N/2N.

Ford 9N was based on the TO-20. Hyd is the same.
Ford made the 2N for war time designation and the hyd was unchanged. Ford"s grandson got tired of Fergy and went his way with the re-designed 8N.
Fergy made the TO-35. Different animal.

yeah i know of the draft control is on the 8n and not the fergie but i remember someone installed the pump from the 8 in a 20 don't know what was done to make it work but i don't think it was much.

I'm not sure how it could be done unless they somehow changed top cover and all.

I shouldn't harp on this but i'm looking at the ford manual now and it's saying that the hydraulic pump in the 8N is similar except that position control lever is not used. Didn't mean to mislead anyone just saying.
