hydraulic system removal on 1859

I have a leak into the rear end and need to remove the hydraulic housing. My a&I manual does not say anything about removing the long shaft, do I need to removeit?

I also would like to fix the high idle miss and was wondering if parts were available todo this and where to get them.

Thanks, TC

No, you don't need to pull the PTO shaft. Make sure you take out the two long bolts on either side of the filter housing.

What is leaking into the rear end? Hydraulic fluid? Do you have to keep adding hydraulic fluid? Have you checked to see if the rear end is overfull? If that oil is contaminated by hydraulic oil it will need changing. Also be certain to replace the draft control sensing seal. It is located in the pan between the the hydraulic system and the rear end. If so you will have to remove the entire hydraulic system and you will need to remove the long PTO shaft. It goes thru the pump. Be certain to replace the hydraulic filter located in a thread on cast iron canister that is between your legs when sitting on the seat. That seal can be hard to get from AGCO. It is Chicago Rawhide # 3645 Also can be gotten from JD number AR40687 It measures .375 X .687 X .156 Also be a good time to change the rear end filter. It is a spin on located under the left foot plate. Easy to get to when the hydraulics are off. Always use new gaskets. Good luck.. Keep us posted..

And before you take it apart get a gauge and see how much pressure you have at the remotes. If the system is leaking and losing fluid it may need a new pump. Also when it is apart look at the elbow on the side of the rock shaft cylinder. They are noted for cracking and causing pressure looses.

Right. The PTO runs through a gear, then there's a larger gear on a short idler shaft that runs off that, that gear turns the gear that the pump splines in to.

Yes it is hydraulic fluid leaking down. This tractor has been in the family since new. I don't know all the history but know the pump has been replaced earlier. It has not been used very little in the past 3years. Since this tractor has the high idle miss and all I do is hay running the rpms at 2400 to get pto speed I dont like to listen to it. I love to run this tractor and want to try to get it straighten out. I have several tractors that are better suited for my operation but it was bought new when I was 16 and I have put at least 3000 of its 3900 hours on it. At my age it is time to fix because there will never be another. Thanks for the help, TC
