Hydraulics Question

I just bought a Case 1175 tractor and I have a hose that I have no idea what it's doing. It's looped out of the top right hydraulic port and just makes a loop back to the valve. Anyone ever seen this? Thanks.

Somebody wanted to use the tractor with a single-acting cylinder so they connected the unused coupler to a hose going back to the return side or the transmission case to prevent the system relief valve from needing to operate while the hydraulic lever is moved to the position that allows the single-acting hydraulic cylinder to lower it's load, a "haybine" platform would be ONE possibility

Ok, that makes sense. The guy I bought it from said it's been a haying tractor all its life. I guess it won't hurt anything if I just unplug it and coil it up then. Thanks for the reply!

Hello Ezze welcome to YT! Not sure how well you know Case tractors of that era and earlier but the arrangements of the coupler pairs are side to side. For an example to use a dual acting cylinder you will couple the two hoses to the top pair of couplers on the tractor both left and right.

Thanks very much for the warm welcome! This is actually my first Case but thanks to this forum, I was able to figure that out before anyone saw me floundering trying to use the left set and then the right set, etc. Hoping to learn a lot here...

Welcome to the Case Forum! That 1175 is one of the best Case machines ever. I hope you get many hours of dependable service from it.

Thanks Don. I've been reading up on the 1175 and people seem to have a high opinion of it. This one had 2,777 hours on it and it seems to be in pretty good shape. It starts and runs good but it had been setting in a barn for a while. Engine temp gauge doesn't work, fixing that is my first priority of course. Needs new belts and the hydraulic filters have surface rust so I'm pretty sure trans oil hasn't been changed in forever, not looking forward to that one! When I change all the fluids, replace hoses, fix the AC and heater it should be ready to go to work! lol
