Hydraulics on Ford 9n stopped working. If blade is attached, no lift, you can see the arms start to move, but as soon as there is tension they stay, unhook blade, i have lift. I was plowing the drive, everything was working just fine and then it suddenly stopped. PTO is on and running. Before I begin to start tearing things apart I shouldn't any ideas? Also with blade off arms raise all the way up and do not go down with hydraulic lift lever, only until after tractor is shut off or PTO is disengaged, is this normal? Thank you

lets start w/ the simple stuff..........

Have you ever dropped the pump & cleaned it out?

What does the fluid level look like? What color is the fluid?

" Also with blade off arms raise all the way up and do not go down with hydraulic lift lever, only until after tractor is shut off or PTO is disengaged, is this normal? "

No.

Check out tip # 16. Post back & tell us what you found.

Remember the 3 point is power up gravity down so yep unloaded the lift arms do not fall fast.
As to your problem with the lift lift you?? If you do not have it buy a I-T FO-4 manual it has a lot of info you need. And even pictures LOL
Next pull the right side inspection cover the one with the dip stick and have a look see in side as to what is going one. Watch for a lot of oil movement or oil dripping from up above the inspection cover. Put a load on when doing this so you have a better idea where the oil is not doing it job and then post back what you find

Make sure you have the I&T F04 manual. Before 'tearing things apart', remove the right inspection port and see what's going on when lifting (with and without the blade attached). Then report back.

MAKE SURE THE CONTROL ROD THAT GOES TO THE LOADER VALVE IS STILL IN PLACE.IT IS ON THE BACK SIDE OF THE PUMP AND LOOKS LIKE A TEE BOTH ENDS GO IN THE CONTROL ARM.

Okay, i do have a manual. I removed the left side inspection cover. When tractor is running, ram cylinder is fully extended, will not go back in. Using the Touch Control Lever, does not change the function of the Ram Cylinder. The Control Arms do not move when the Touch Control Lever is operated while the tractor is running. Turn the tractor off cylinder retracts and when the Touch Control Lever is moved up or down you can see the Control Arms move. Fluid level is full, it is a little lighter then it should be. To my knowledge the pump has never been removed and cleaned, nor has the cylinder/seals. Thank you to all who responded.

The previous post was using the hydraulics with the blade off. With the blade on the Control Arm/Lever operate normally. The cylinder is completely retracted and does not lift. Do i have a bad cylinder seal, bent cylinder arm?

The right side cover is the one you should pull the one with the dip stick. The left side you can not see as much when it is pulled. Sounds like the control rod is bent or the control valve is sticking

Pulled right cover, seeing the same thing. Also further noted I didn't see any leakage of fluid coming from Ram Cylinder while being operated, but then again with weight on cylinder is fully retracted, weight off cylinder is fully extended.

You need weight on and the control so it will try to lift even if it does not lift or you will never see where the problem is. Unloaded ya it will work but you have to load it up and look at things or your just wasting your time. Sort of like saying hey how much can you lift but not having any thing there to make a guy prove it so you take him at his word. So your taking your tractor at it word and it is lieing to you
