Hydrolic oil

I just came by a 8 n on a trade and notice the oil in hydrolic when I pulled the dip-stick has a lot of foam on it ,is that a sign that someone has put in the wrong oil and that's causing it to foam like that. I also have a 2 N and I always used sae 90 from T S C and never had a foam like that. Maybe its not hurting anything , What do You Guy's think?? Pat. P.

Just to clarify here; the oil in your tractor isn't truely hydraulic oil. Straight hydraulic fluid is much thinner and doesn't have the EP (extreme pressure) protection that your gears need.
If you change it go with the recommended 134D oil. It is heavier than straight hydraulic oil but lighter than 80W90. Most importantly it has the EP protection you want. It will also have the anti foaming agents you want. There is all kinds goofy oil that gets dumped into these tractors by guys who just don't know better or don't realize how far oil technology has advanced since mineral oil was the recommended lubricant.
There are a lot of guys on the Ford board who run big 90, 100, 130 horsepower tractors. Those things have complex hydraulic, dual power, hydraulically controlled PTOs and wet braking systems on them that need the right oil.
And the gear boxes absolutely need the right EP type oil.
Some of those guys have 10/12/16,000 hours on their tractors with a good generic UTF that meets Ford 134D specs.
Our little Fords don't have those complex hyd systems, will never see those kinds of hours, nor take the punishment those big tractors take. But the right oil is still important for good functionality and longevity on them.
My 02 cents.

" got to go look for some 134D as suggested"

See tip # 3. You can get oil that meets that spec at TSC or NAPA.

Other places carry it as well.

Or you can pay twice as much for it at CNH.

Correct on the EP additives but incorrect on viscosity. The viscosity specification for CNH's 134D oil is 60 cSt@40C. That is actually a little "lighter" (just outside the +/- 10% window) than a ISO/AW grade 68 hydraulic oil (68 cST @ 40C). Technicalities aside, for all practical purposes they are the same ISO viscosity grade. The 134D also has a "high" viscosity index (136) which means it will actually be a [u:bdf3b1563a]lot[/u:bdf3b1563a] lighter when the temps drop below freezing and most conventional hydraulic oils (VI around 100) start to get overly thick and heavy.....

You are absolutely correct in using 134D oil. I discussed this with my New Holland dealer in Fargo that is familiar with 8N tractors and he said don't be stupid and use something other than 134D. I bought his oil.
Thanks

Has 134d been superceded by Ambra mastertran ultraction oil?
When I went to the NH dealer they told me that this is what they are now using. It doesn't say that it meets the 134 spec on the bucket.

CNH just introducted the new Ultraction family of hydraulic oils:

Their new Mastertran Ultraction is now recommended for use in all applications that previously used MasterTran and/or Multi-G 134. Mastertran Ultraction is made by Viscosity Oil - the same folks that made the older products:

Their new HyTran Ultraction is now recommended for all HyTran Ultra and and most but not all Nexplore applications. Hytran Ultraction is made by Akcella - the same folks that made the older Hytarn products:

The images below are from a CNH presentaion on the new oils - take careful note of the compatability warnings....
