Hyster fork lift

Didn’t know where to post this so I chose tools since it’s a tool. LOL My son is looking at an old Hyster 7000 pound fork lift with a 6 cylinder flathead engine. He was told the engine might be a Continental.

This thing hasn’t run for 10 years but the owner claims it ran well when it was parked. He said now a few valves might be stuck. It was just too big for his business and he never got around to selling it. Owner is very mechanical, Ive known him and his family for over 50 years and I know he won’t misrepresent anything.

Are Continental parts still plentiful? My son is very good mechanically too and is able to fix anything on it but if parts aren’t available even the best mechanic can’t fix it.

There should be plenty of engine parts available for it.

It's the other parts for the forklift that can be hard to find. Anything specific only to the lift, like transmission parts, brake drums, steering, mast parts, hydraulics...

Some of it can be sourced from casting numbers, substituted, but some things can be a real problem to find or work around.
