i-4 clutch brake problem

i have an i-4 international tractor.it is almost like an h.now the problem,it has an cluth brake.and it doesnt work.it makes an alfull racket when it sitting idling, now when i push in the clutch,no more noise.now can i take all that extra stuff out of the clutch housing that is for the clutchbrake?without taking the tractor in half or what?or does anyone know about how to adjust or just fix it somehow?anyone know about this?the clutchbrake pad has a little brake shoe on it and it looks good.it has a good half of brake shoe.thank you

I am completely rebuilding an I-4 that will also include a new clutch but I can tell you, I removed the clutch before I decided to do a complete tear down. In other words, you don't have to split the tractor to do it. The clutch comes out the top so you do have to remove all the stuff over it; gas tank, belt pulley, front gas tank support, etc.

However, the symptoms you describe sound like a classic case of a "sick" throw out bearing. They will often quiet down when pressure is applied (or if you can find the grease fitting and grease it). A couple of other places to look: broken throw out fork, throw-out bearing support housing, or damaged pressure plate. If any of those need to be replaced, that can also be done without splitting the tractor.

Dennis, I should also add that the clutch brakes were notorious for getting oily and that limited their stopping power and/or the springs that apply pressure on the clutch brake drum could also be broken or missing. Have fun.

I agree with Tom. The brake contacts when you push the pedal down, so it would make noise when you puch the pedal down. I just took mine out. I didnt see any need for it since this tractor would be used for shows mainly and playing in the feild pulling the kids around.

i found the noise,it was the starter i looked up in clutch housing from the bottom and i seen sparks near the top.i took off the starter and i put shims on the bolts.between the starter and the housing, now no more noise.i forgot to mention i did put a new starter on it a couple of months ago.boy that is weird i did not think of that.i guess i bought a non fitting starter, ebay did it again.also i put a 3-point hitch on my i-4 and i want to post some pictures, anyone know how?i have a cpoier printer scanner hooked up now what.i got the pictures in my e-mail place now what?thanks
