I hate moveing

Yes I am doing some thing I just do not like to do. I had to sell my place to the University next to me and I have bought another place out of town (like in Benton Ca ). I had bought my first house in 1994 and threw these years I can not believe what I got piled up. I got six tractors witch makes six trips to haul and a bunch of other stuff. The good part is I am moving back into an area where farmers are and open land (yeah). It is worth the money to me I need this because I really miss it. No more big town for me I have had enough of it. My shop will be built next year during spring time.

Congratulation on your new place.

Yep - moving is a real eye opener to how much "stuff" we all have. Back when my folks moved to town, I knew they had a lot... but Lordy, the amount was shocking once we started digging it out and packing it up.

The wife and I agree that we'd like a smaller house, but we'd have to build one heck of a huge pole barn to store all the junk that doesn't need to be in the house. I guess if we did that though,it'd be best to fill the pole barn with dumpsters and put all the stuff right in them. It'd save the kids a whole lot of time and trouble down the road.

Time to sort through what you really want to move.
Last move we made not counting wear and tear or my time it was costing $500.00 for a round trip to the new place.

Had a good hard look at what I was going to take as far as vehicles and equipment were concerned.

If I figured something was worth $800.00 for example I put it up for sale for $600.00 and it was snapped up in no time.

The $500.00 saved on transport added to the $600.00 from the sale left me with $1100.00 available to purchase something better at the new place.

How far you are moving will dictate your math.

In 1985 my wife and I were living on an acreage we owned at the time. My mother-in-law passed away and we took over her house in town because it was close to school for our daughter, among other practical reasons. Since my wife is an only child, we basically moved our stuff into her mom's house and lived happily.

In 1997 my mother died and we accumulated a bunch of her stuff. Then in 1999 we sold the house in town and built back out in the country. When we moved out of the house in town, we were basically moving three households out of it. We'd put in a 12 hour day moving and it wouldn't even look like we'd put a dent in it. Plus we had to winter in a 2 bedroom apartment while our present house in the country was being built. Thankfully, one of my wife's girlfriends offered us the use of an empty Quonset she had.

It seemed like stuff was breeding and reproducing exponentially. Several years ago, I put up a 30X48 metal building with the intentions of having a nice new shop. Guess what? I'm still in my old shop while the new building is used for storage.

I think we need to have a huge garage sale, or even an auction.

Do yourself a huge favor and sort ruthlessly. Sell, donate, give away or trash at least half of it before you start packing. You won't miss 99 percent of it. BTDT, LOL.

I am amazed that people here in the city let 2 expensive vehicles worth anywhere from $25K to $100K sit out in the sun baked driveway - just to protect $500 worth of junk inside the garage. It's still a shortcoming of parents and schools that they fail to teach children financial wisdom and priorities.

I have made three trips already. I got the 66 G.M.C and the 67 Mustang moved to my parents house garage. There neighbors say that they fell high class now L.O.L. I had to clean out one side of my shed and I have made two creates with wheels on them just for the John Deere parts for the John Deere 70 D. so here is the picture of the mess. I got some hand lifts for a I.H. farmall cub if any body is looking for them let me know.

I was facing that in the tool shed. There was junk in there that'd been there since I built it in the early 80s. I had a big burn pile and hauled a lot of steel stuff to the iron pile. Where there was one tractor sitting in the shed, there's four now.

Hi , I hate moving too. I only did it once. I lived at the first place for 24 yr and the stuff I brought with me, incredible. I used my 3 ton chev and back hoe trailer. I've been here 26 yr and stuff just seems to collect. I was looking at your building and thought you mut not have much snow load. Good luck Ed Will

you aint the only one that hates to move. dad was in the Air Force so we moved every 18m to 2 years or so, then i went in the Army, and again, PCS every 2 years.

now that im retired from uncle sam, i aint moving again. Ive moved all my live.

got the wife, and got my rusty red tractors. what else is there?

I moved into my current shop in '89. I have recently started looking at stuff differently. I ask myself: If I have not used that in 27 years will I ever? A lot of stuff has gone to the transfer station and some sold on Craig's list. The wife has been going through her stuff too.

Dick, not only that, but what doesn't fit in the garage goes to rented storage!

I was helping my daughter move a couple years ago. Her mom (my ex) and sister have had a storage unit rented for years, jammed full of worthless junk!

Neither will work, struggle financially, but keep pouring money down the tube for "their stuff"!

Moved twice in 2 1/2 years. Wife told me if I decided to move again she is keeping the house! Can't afford two places so here I stay...

Brent, I've got more stuff in my shop and it is only 20x 36. Have a 34x60 piled about 4 ft deep that I have been sorting through. Have some stuff that I put in the barn 30 years ago that I have not even looked at in all of that time. Guess if you don't use it in 30 years you don't need it. Good luck on your move. Make sure that your new shop has plenty of shelf space. Up not out. Have been putting up pallet racking. Works great.

We told the kids "we're dieing right here, you figure out what to do with 43 years of accumulation." Still sounds like a good idea.

There is only one problem with that. I do old farm tractors and some times parts are very hard to find. So I went threw the years I have watch a call it hung on to those old parts. I have this John Deere I call my money pit and boy I have new parts and used parts for it (I got 2 pallets full). The list is still climbing for parts to buy for this tractor it does not stop. I got six tractors to move to the new house. can not sell any of them there to sentimental have to keep them.

I had a small house when I was an age of 30 years old. I had a 22 foot Santa Fe camping trailer self contained. Boy I thought I had the world my house had wheels. Summer time was living at the beach for three weeks and then the mountains for two weeks. Nobody could find me when I wanted to hide. Then after that my employer told me to buy a house witch I did. That made them happy because they could find me.

The problem lies with the word Worthless junk. Is that for the fun of it have your friends walk in and till them they can take any thing they need. Stand back and watch all the worthless junk you thought becomes there stuff real fast. I still have people coming over asking if I am going to sell any tractors or any of those hard to find parts they need. What we think is worth less have no value Or no body wants it. think again.
