I put up an ad on a bulletin board and mentioned to a couple friends that I was going to sell my woodworking tools. Had 3 buyers; all of my large tools are sold and gone. Having a sale 10/2; hope the small things sell as well as the big things did.

Gave up woodworking for health reasons, but looks like tools still sell well.

How did you ever manage to sell your tools? Every once in a while I think of eliminating some duplicates (or triplicates) and some guy will offer me like 10 cents on the dollar of my asking price and I feel that I would be mistreating my tools if I sold em to the guy and turn down the generous offers. I too have health problems and haven't been able to build anything for some time, but I keep hoping, maybe some day, who knows. If not , my kids can take over or dispose of my tools & toys.

So are you moving into the rest home now? Sorry to hear about the health issues. I retired last May but hired on to haul Cotton from the Safford valley to the warehouse in Glendale during harvest.

I go to allot of auctions. Even in this lousy economy, quality commercial grade tools still bring strong prices.

Mostly sold by word of mouth after I posted one list of tools for sale. I got within 10 - 20% of what I paid 10 - 20 years ago for most of the things; made a few bucks on a couple of items. Sold some items for exactly what I paid for them.

Good luck with selling your tools. with both kids living out of the country, I didn't want to leave selling the tools to them. My wife doesn't know anything about tools or how to price them.

Depends on what you have. Common stuff like sabre saws, drills, routers, etc won't bring much, maybe 30%-50% of new price depending on what you have.
Table and radial saws 50% or more of new price depending on what they are.
Lathes, jointers, planers, shapers, etc can easily fetch 75%-80% of new price under the right circumstances.
For small stuff check COMPLETED auctions on ebay to see what stuff actually sells for. Prices at local auctions and private sales are often higher than ebay auctions.
The higher the quality of the tools, the bigger the market is for them.
