Stihl doesn't have "sales."

Occasionally, Stihl has a special where they give buyers a free case but rarely do they mark prices down. As I mentinoned earlier, you can get an extended warranty buy buying a 6 pack of Stihl synthetic 2 cycle oil on the same invoice as your new saw (unless things have changed recently).

My local CNH/Kubota dealer also sells Stihl and I could once get a discount on Stihl products from my good contact in parts because I have been a very good customer. Sadly, he retired recently so I am now a list-price customer for everything once again.

Yes, you should expect price increases. Kubota just announced another price increase of 6%-10% depending upon product line.

Great saw, but a bit hard to justify for the typical homeowner/farm user.

My small saw is the MS250, which is not a 'professional' saw but significantly less expensive than the 261. It's a bit heavier and a bit less HP but suitable for my 'small saw' needs and I am not at all fond of the 251.

i know you are looking at stihl, i have 3 the 120 battery saw, an ms 170 and an 028 woodbboss 20 in bar. i recently had the emerald ash borer hit my timber stands on both farms and killed a bunch. i have some oak that died too. i needed an extra saw and ended up with an echo timber wolf. comes with a 20 inch bar and will handle up to a 24. if you follow the directions it is an easy saw to start. chain brake on, ignition switch on, choke on, depress compression release and pull cord til it pops. then choke off, push compression release again and it starts right up. i will dig around and find a picture of it.

All I can say is Stihl makes a great product. I have an 026 that I have had for 10 - 15 years. It starts every time, never had a problem. I'm 76 so it don't get used by me much anymore, BUT, I have a guy and he uses it fairly regular. In the past I had an 051 for firewood (big saw) and at 1 point an 074 (bigger saw). I was waay younger then. Luck !

go to Stihl dealer pick up each saw, check for balance, and weight. the small saws will surprise you. i purchased an MS 170, great small saw, plenty of power, 16 in, i also went to eBay, and bought a carbide tip chain, bought a new 3/8, 16 bar at tractor supply. the new chain is 3/8, and the original sprocket drive works just fine. now you have a saw that will cut. use your electric when needed, pull out a Stihl, too work. mark55

I have a 171 I have used for several years that works well up to medium sized trees. When My wife and I purchased 20 acres that is attached to ours she said you need a bigger saw. Since I don't disagree with my wife, we looked and she purchased Stihl for me as an anniversary gift. My only regret is not getting a Super chain sooner. They sell at least two yellow chains. The S is the best in my opinion.
