I need a computer expert

My desktop has Windows 10 and it's not supported anymore. Last week it shutdown for some reason and I restarted it but it was super slow. I use Brave for a browser and tried to get into saved passwords but it said I needed the Microsoft password to get into them. I've never had a Microsoft password since it was new 8 or 10 years ago. Now when starting it up it shows a background that I haven't seen before, when I click the mouse my name comes up in a circle with a box to put a password in that I have no idea what it is. Now what do I do? Am I just screwed? It has farm records and pictures that I don't want to loose. I checked with a local computer repair shop and he said without a password he can't get into it to try anything. Time to use this one for target practise and get another one and loose everything? I'm using a tablet right now that I really don't like but it's better than trying to use my phone. Any ideas? Thanks, Chris

I'm sure no expert at all, but I had to have Royse out here a couple of times when I couldn't get in to Quicken on my desk top. We finally figured out that just turning it off wasn't enough when it acted up like that, we had to unplug it for a few minutes. Before I shot at it, I'd at least try unplugging it.

It sounds like Microsoft slugged your HD to get you to upgrade.

If anything, pull the hard drive & get a USB dock for it. Then you can plug it in to another computer & try to access your stuff. Follow the instructions to a "T". You may have to physically change your drive over to a slave unit for another computer to read it without having to use a password. Doesn't always work that easy. Usually though.

Pulling the HD should be easy. If not, YouTube is full of videos for just such a thing. Just know your computer model before searching.

If all else fails, just hit the dumb thing with a hammer. :D

What you're describing is Billybob Gates asking you for your four digit PIN number. If you were never asked to create such an animal, I don't know what to suggest to you other than what Mike describes..

take it to the hydraulics shop, they should only charge you $200 for initial inspection and then $800 for their initial estimate of rebuilding yer ancient cylinders and such like----
when you coulda just got done with it and had bought new ones online from the get go for only $400

Have an older hard drive from a home vista machine and it suddenly asked for a password. I had already switched over to Linux so that wasn't a problem. It simply meant windows was no-more to me.

For saving your files at least:
Have a laptop or another computer with a CD burner? Or know someone with one? Download a Linux operating system.
Most CD burners can easily make an ISO file. Try (let's say) Puppy Linux Xenial 7.5 and burn it as an ISO.
It's smaller and will fit on a CD.

This way you could put the Linux CD in the tray, restart the machine, get into the area using an F button or some such and reset the computer to look at the CD drive first. The first starting screen should tell you how. Something like (For bios Press F10).

A computer guy could do this for you too. (He or she might not know what Linux is. I wouldn't tell them, none of their beeswax.)
Just so the computer looks at the CD drive FIRST. Usually, they're set to look at the hard drive on start up.

If it starts and runs the Puppy Linux you can dig around in files familiar to you, grab the content you want and copy it to a flash drive.

Heck, you can get a loaded CD and instructions on ebay for 10 bucks.

Note: If downloading a linux system, you may need to try a couple to find one that will work with your win 10 computer.

Have you tried just hitting return and seeing if it will let you in?

if you never set a password it may be just a blank one.

Where are you located?

You most likely have not lost everything. At best, it will all be there once you login. If it reinstalled windows 10 or installed windows 11 clean, it will move them to a out-of-the-way location, but won’t be visible unless you go looking.

In the worst case scenario, a format wipes everything, but that shouldn’t be the case for you, the way you’ve described it.

I don't know what is wrong with your boot but when you get back in please NEVER have any files of value on the one hard drive only. There are multiple cloud services that will give you free space and they are safe and secure, managed by professional server farm managers. Use Micro$oft OneDrive or GoogleDrive or something equivalent. Even if you get your machine working again the hard drive is going to eventually fail. Guaranteed.

I have a computer question. My desk top PC mouse arrow operates very good/responsive on some sites such as this site, Facebook & Gmail but not some sites such as Tractorbynet, Tractor Forum, Green tractor talk I must click several times to change anything but I can click on any of those forums to reopen the site & it normally opens site immediately. My daughter that's been a computer programmer for many years stated it's an individual site problem. I've tried using 3 or 4 different mouses with same results.
Thanks for any thoughts.

Sounds like a command is dragging & causing the window not to load all the way. Could be a browser issue.... could be a graphics issue, could be a hardware issue....?? An ad blocker can also cause a page to not load all the way & some functions on that page won't work right or at all.

It's one of those issues you have to weed out, to figure out what is causing the hang. Or.... if anything, to find it's not the issue at all.
