I should be mowing

For the last week or so here in S. Calif. the mornings have been damp. Not rain, just a heavy dew. The grass just doesn't cut good when wet. I get in 4-5 hours mowing in the afternoon. So in the mornings I spend a little time in my garden. I have a problem with my cucumber plants, maybe someone has a little information on what is eating my just sprouted seeds. The plant is just an inch or so out of the ground, and something comes along and cuts off the stem. What ever it is makes a hole about the size of a nickel down to the stem, and chews it in half. Thanks for your help. Stan

Take a tomato juice can with both ends cut out over
the plant & push it into the ground an inch. A cutworm
will still eat the stem. Animals--not as likely.
