I will never go back

The first mower I bought for my Ford 4000 row crop was a 4 foot brush hog. It was appropriate, given the state of the property we just bought, but it didn't do a good job on grass and of course it was a couple of feet too narrow for the tractor. So I bought an old Mott F6 six foot flail mower and used it for about 20 years. Flail mowers do a great job, although my tractor tends to tear up the turf and isn't good mowing around trees. I used the flail mower out in the open areas where there aren't many trees and a Craftsman lawn tractor around the house.

About ten years ago I bought a ZTR and I'm not going back to the flail mower or lawn tractor. The ZTR does a better, faster job than the lawn tractor, and it's just as fast as the flail and cuts about as nice. The ZTR is so fast I save at least a couple of hours a week mowing. And I don't have to mess around with switching implements on my tractor. I haven't used the Mott since I bought my ZTR, and our property is cleared out enough I seldom use the brush hog.
Hope George doesn't see your post.

I started my mowing business over 30 years ago, with a MF TO 20, with a 5 ft mowing deck. Then I got a 6 ft Woods rotary mower. Boy I was cutting weeds like crazy. If the weeds weren't too thick, then I could only take a 1/2 a cut. Later I got a MF 231 that pulled the 6 ft woods just fine. About 15 years later I bought a JD 401B Industrial, and later found an 8 ft flail mower. Every time I use it, I'm amazed what a good job it does. After 15 years of the other butt Bustin tractors I will never go back to full time rotary mowers, and stick with my comfortable JD. What have some of you used and will never go back too? Stan
Regular riding mower. ZTRs are mowing machines! I still have my JD rider but I removed the deck and use it for spreading fertilizer.

Why did you cover all the windows in garage?

A little for security, and a little for efficiency. The slider/casement windows in there are reasonable, but not super-efficient. That garage/shop is heated and air conditioned, and knocking down any infiltration and some sunlight seemed to help with the temperature control. That was in spring, and in summer the bags were changed to white. The interior steel siding makes magnetic clips useful for that kind of thing just about anywhere in the building. The trees don't help much with either the wind or the sun.

I guess what I don't understand is why people keep buying those zero turns with the two bars for steering? I have a Country Clipper with the joy stick, and I love it! Spent a lot of time on a twin stick Exmark cutting my sister in laws lawn, like the joy stick lots better!
We have a country clipper ztr with joy stick. Love it, but Country Clipper is top of the line in my opinion there fore are more expensive. Probably why more don't have the joystick control. maybe, gobble

I started my mower-brush hogging business on a Massey 231 and a 5 ft. House cutter. Six years ago I upgraded to a 60hp Kubota with a factory cab and a 6 ft. Landpride cutter. I'm not going back either. No problem with hot summer days and I haven't been stung by a bee since.

Love my Kubota 60 inch Z-Turn for mowing grass, cut my mowing time in half compared to a compact tractor and a 72 inch mower and does a better job too.
