well freinds it stopped with the rain around 10 this morning been sleeting ever since then thank the lord we still got power lil chubby mamma cooked us a big pot of beans with bacon and lots of corn bread i got a beer or two stuck back so how iz ur day going

It was 78 this afternoon and I got to shovel some gravel and hose out the trailer. Now I'm all sweaty.

6 below this morning. Got all the way up to 24F around 3:00 pm.

Pretty long winter so far and no thaw forecast in the near future. I'm wondering how bad it would be if it weren't for global warming. Haven't seen anyone drving on the ice yet but I'm sure it's going to be any day now.

On the bright side we are really enjoying our new 96% efficient Lennox furnace that we put in a few weeks ago. Never realized how noisy the old one was and how cold the house was all the time.

I looked up Covington LA on Mayquest to see where you are. I lived in Bossier City when I was about 16 for a year or so with my older sister and was stationed in Alexandria from 55 through 58 while encarcerated by the Federal Government. AF to be exact. How did you fare with the hurricane?

Icing up pretty bad here right now. Am ready to go down to the barn and crank up the generator anytime
now. Power lines won't stay up if this keeps up very long.

When Katrina came through I was managing the Episcopal Conference Center in Husser (you won't find that on your map - look for Loranger). We had lots of trees down and were without electricity for 16 days, but no major building damage and nobody hurt, thanks be to God. We had 130 evacuees at the Center, plus a detachment of National Guard troops who slept and ate one meal at our Center. We operated on a 350KW generator for 14 days before its governor broke. It works on Propane, and I spent the entire 14 days scrounging food and Propane. Sysco ended up running a truck to us from Dallas, because their New Orleans warehouse was in the area nobody could get back into. Propane was another matter - FEMA had co-opted all available supplies to run the reefer trucks at the Airport that were being used as a morgue, so we had to essentially steal whatever we could from wherever we could. Somehow we got through.

As for this past year's storms, when I had retired and moved to Covington, "piece of cake."
