Identification

(quoted from post at 16:51:41 10/31/21) Tag on right side housing under seat. Type: T5W1D. Serial 119325T

It could be a 1971 JD400, gas engine, collar shift transmission with reverser. A picture would help confirm.

Matches except for reverser.
Transmission is a two stick. R, 1,
2, on left 1 through 4 on right. It
does have 4 gears reverse and 8
forward. If that is called a
reverser. I was thinking that is
what it is. Thanks

One with the reverser would have the left hand lever with P for Park, and 1 and 2. Reverse was activated by the lever just to the left of the steering wheel. The tractor would reverse in any of the low range gears, although I had one that would reverse in all 8!

As coonie minnie posted with the reverser you should have lever on the left under the steering wheel for forward and reverse, which can be shifted without using the clutch. Of course in 50 years it might have been removed and replaced with the straight collar shift transmission.

I just got this machine so still figuring it out. No reverser under steering wheel. Reverse on same stick as 1, 2, and park. There is a short stick between the two others. Have not experimented to see what it does or don't do

Short stick between the two shift levers is likely Independent PTO.

Pictures may help.
