I was checking my18-4-34 tires for Spring on my 1983 Case 1490. The tires are loaded with Calcium Chloride. I did not know to rotate the stems toward the top. When I tried to add air it seems like I disintegrated the spring loaded core and now am leaking fluid. I look in the stem and do not see any core left in there to remove. The photos show what I have on there. Are these the ones that come apart and you can screw on a new stem and core. I am unsure of what to buy to repair them?

You have a TR218A type stem on your tube. Get a new valve core housing, the Schrader valve is inside it. The valve core housing will screw out of the stem. If it is stuck use a pair of pliers to hold the stem (grip the external threads just above the plastic nut) and another pair of pliers (grip the splined part below the threads for the valve cap) to break the valve core housing loose. If you twist the stem you may end up replacing the tube. Tractor Supply, tire shops and some hardware and parts stores have the Valve core housings along with their tire repair products.

Some will come right apart and some not so much. As already warned be careful about the threaded pipe portion turning in the rubber if it does you will need a new tube at about 120.00. With the wheel turned stem up and weight off from it you should be able to take it out with no further fluid leakage. Tire does need to be off the ground though. I buy those stems from the local parts house i use. They have the cores or the stem in stainless steel I believe. I also put a dab of lubricant on the threads of the new one at installation. If you have the new one right there as you remove the old one you can stick the new one in with a minor amount of leakage if it is going to. Then just adjust inflation on tire when done.
