I have an older B&S horizontal shaft engine here that has a dead ignition coil. It was bronze in colour originally although someone sprayed or transplanted a red-sprayed front pull cord assembly cover onto it. The decals on that say Briggs and Stratton, 5 HP at 3400 RMP and also Made In USA and Easy Spin Starting. I would like to find an ignition coil for it but there are so many online I suspect a guy could easily order the wrong one. The output shaft is 3/4" and the flywheel diameter is appx. 7" The 2 coil mounting holes are about 68mm apart (2 5/16"). It has a protruding stub for helping anchor a tin air deflector panel on the left side of the coil (but the left hand mounting bolt also helps with that). I cannot find any engine ID number anywhere, I think it should be stamped somewhere on the case maybe? Any suggestions as to where to look more closely? Here's a couple of photos, not sure why the one ended up vertical.
