Ignition Push Button Question

Hello,

So I have rewired our 1948 8n along with many other parts being replaced or repaired, and my question is how would I wire up the push button only to turn the engine over when the key is in the on position? The engine will turn over even when the key is out, this could be an issue with kiddos and grandkids playing on the tractor. Any thoughts?

Not a real easy way to go about that other then a battery disconnect

Yes I always have disconnect the battery after, just thought there may be a way to have it only turn over when they is in the on position. Thank you for your response.

The push button engages the start circuit by grounding the solenoid, It has nothing to do with the ignition. The key contrrols the ignition. Old is correct

There's a SIMPLE way to do that with the correct four terminal solenoid, I'll post a diagram later when I get home.

Original 6 Volt or 12 Volt conversion?

You can do it with a simple four post relay. Run the start signal wire through the relay at pins 30 and 87. Connect pins 85 and 86 to ignition and ground. Key on, relay closes, pin 30 and 87 are connected. Starter button operates the starter solenoid. Key off, relay opens, signal from starter button goes nowhere.
