Ignition wires

Have a 2 cylinder that needs new wires and and an Allis that started missing a bit last fall that could possibly use a set as well, what is everyone’s go to wire for antique equipment? Both machines are distributor and 12 volt systems. The set on the Deere came from Steiner and are 2 years old, not impressed I pulled the coil wire off overnight as a theft deterrent and ended up pulling the end off which exposed a lot of green corrosion that had traveled about an inch up the wire already. Machine was stored inside and maybe got 5 hours of use between those two years and for 6 months sat in a heated shed over winter getting the o ring packings in the bearing replaced.

I’m not opposed to buying bulk wire and putting ends on if that is a higher quality option

What part of the country are you in? I think I might have a set of NOS JD 2 cylinder spark plug wires in my shop. New still in the box. Might be a whole tune up kit but don't remember for sure. I'd have to take a look.

As far as I know one cannot purchase good tractor wires already made up at the normal sources and haven't been able to for a good many years. Everything you need can be purchased at a good NAPA if you have one or can be sourced on eBay or John Brillman. 7MM solid core wire, Echlin or Packard preferably. Boots and clips and it all works much better if you purchase the tool made for assembling the pieces.

No matter what kind of wires you have if you park your tractor around cattle they will sample the wires. stan

I buy my wire by the roll , and buy the ends. Been making wires for years and years. Nice and neat and cut to length also.

I got a set of plug wires from here (YT/PartsASAP)... I haven't put them on yet, need to get a couple grommets for the wire holder bracket first. However, the old wires on there now are still working fine and are probably 30+ years old. The tip is missing on the center cap wire, so it's just bare wire shoved down in the coil, but it's been working like that for decades.

Color coded wires to match oem, with soldered ends using heat shrink tape to cover, will give you trouble free use.
I am talking ignition wires such as plug and coil wires, I am assuming you are talking about the regular 12 volt wiring, however if they make solder type plug and coil wires I would be interested in knowing where you get them

Wow, that doesn't sound good, maybe clean it up and use some contact paste?

Yes , the ends are crimp on.

Nothing wrong with the wires they sell here

I’ve hidden a kill switch before as well none of them will truly love the repeated unplugging

A master switch on the battery is relatively easy to install.

Just adding an inline fuse to the distributor power wire and removing it keeping a couple spares in the pickup at the show.
