IH 1066 weak TA?

I have an IH 1066 that I have been told by my mechanic that the TA needs to be replaced, however after reading some of the threads on this site I’m not so sure. The TA is fine on the low side and only slips on the high side it doesn't make any noise or anything it just slips. My understanding is that the high side of the TA is a direct drive with some sort of clutch that can be adjusted. Is this true? If so how do I adjust it. The TA on the tractor has been replaced a number of years ago, thats what I don't understand, why it would go out again, and so soon. Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

TA adjustment is a pretty exact science. You will do yourself a huge service to pick up the I&T service manual for your tractor. It includes a detailed process for adjusting the TA.

As for why the TA would go out so soon after being replaced, it does need to be adjusted periodically, and if run out of adjustment, will wear out more quickly than normal.

The Hi side of the TA is engaged by hydraulic pressure. The low side will drive with out hydraulic pressure. With out hydraulic pressure the low side will free wheel when going down a hill. You need to check the pressures at the MCV valve and see what is going on.
