Ih 1086 won't move

Have a 1086 here that acts as if it's hung In two gears when you let off the clutch it just dies the engine down. Can move the range and speed shifters in any position and it still does the same thing. There is very little resistance when moving the range lever into high or low but park and reverse feel normal. But here's the strange part the tractor will still roll when pulled. Any help is appreciated!

Speed transmission is stuck in two gears. The range trans is in neutral. That is why it will still roll.I can tell you how to fix on a 06/65 tractor. But 86????

Pull the floor mat up and remove the plate in the floor of the cab and you can see all the linkage , now as to what happened It is anyone's guess and how far into it you have to get i do not know as i am not there to go looking . Might be a one beer fix and it might be a kegger .

Also on the range shifter the low resistance is probably due to a missing detent roller and spring and that will requirer pulling the range cover to repair.

We pulled the range cover off the detent spring was missing. We started it and let off the clutch with the range shift fork in neutral still no change so we pulled cover off of speed trans everything moves freely and looks as it should?? Any ideas?? Thanks!

Not to steal anybody's thread, but my 1586 does the exact same thing. I usually just shake the two transmission levers back and forth until it frees up.

Well it has to be in the speed transmission if it is killing the engine when you come up on the clutch . The only other thing and i have never heard about it or run into it is IF both sides of the T/A clutch pac's had pressure on them at the same time . But i am not there to see for myself .

Mine did the same thing last year and it was the 3/4 shift fork broken . was locking in two gears. Was not obvious as we pulled that cover then split tractor ands tightened nut holding gears together. Finally it completely failed spreading one day and had to limp it home in 2nds.

Turns out one of the bolts in the back of the TA had broken off and backed out and wedged itself between two gears. Needless to say we are replacing the TA!
