IH 1420 combine your thoughts

I have been farming with 6600 combines for over 20 years. I Farm right around 100 acres. Looking to moving up to a rotor. My question is what your thoughts on a 1420 I have a neighbor down the road that has one he wants to sell with a 15 foot grain table. Good shape nice machine. A lot of people talk the rotors do a lot better in beans than a conventional.

I think going to a rotor would be a good thing. The only problem is that a 1420 is kind of an orphan; it shares no parts with any other machine, except a 1620, which is also a pretty rare machine.

It wouldn't cost much to move up to a 1440 or 1460, and you would have a lot more parts to choose from.

Yea I agree with mark on the combines, I jump to the 1600 series. I had 2 1680’s and good machines now running a 2388 all machines give good clean samples. Doing beans and corn. Once in a while I run some wheat and get good clean wheat but not much straw. I don’t do all changes for the straw. Good luck

Ask neighbor how it works in green or wet straw beans if you want to combine at night or how to set it for wheat if you need to get longer straw for baleing .My experience with 1460 and 1660 series was that they worked well , but required a lot of adjustment between crops.
