IH 1486 TA

Dealer has an IH 1486 on the lot. Pretty decent looking old tractor. Has case IH mechanical diode TA sticker on the hood but the TA handle in the cab is like its froze and will not pull back at all. What could the problem be, TA out or in the linkage? haven't talked to salesman just looked at it on lot.

From reading on this forum, the Mechanical Diode technology has not been the best answer to replacement TAs. Hy-capacity is a good brand. The TA is cable operated hydraulic over mechanical one way clutch. The cables can rust to solid or bind. Jim

When I bought my 886 it was frozen in direct. The old man was scared to use it so it hadn't been shifted since it was brand new. I tried freeing it up but ended up putting a cable in it and it works like clockwork. I was scared to death the first time I shifted it that the old man had been feeding me a line. He turned out to have sold me the best tractor I own. With it on a lot you are taking your chances I think.

One just showed up on the lot here in Ottawa KS. That wouldn't be the one would it? I just saw it when I stopped for hytran the other day. Straight old girl. Only blemish is the bent stack they all seem to have.

Sounds like you picked up a nice one from him. Does your 886 have the American or German engine?
The tractor at Ottawa is a 1586 I believe, it only has around 4,500 hrs and looked pretty decent like you said. The 1486 I saw was up at wamego. I've been looking for another tractor around that size, just don't know about a 15 with it being short on gears.
