My 184 cub has an new alternator which is charging because the battery stays charged, but it isn't indicating any charge rate on the amp meter. Original harness and hooked up as the old alternator was. Any clues on correcting this? PJ

Is the wire from the alternator on the same ammeter terminal as the battery power wire to the ammeter? If so it will not show a charge as the alternator output is not going through the ammeter. It should be on the ammeter terminal with all the load wires. There is also the possibility it is only charging a couple amps as needed and the current is not enough to move the ammeter needle. What is the voltage at the battery terminals when running half throttle?

Thanks Jim, I'll check, the amp meter is also new and I might have a wire on the meter wrong, I'll check it later and get back. Thanks for the quick reply! PJ

That is why I switched to a volt meter, preferably digital. You can see te battery voltage as soon as you turn on the switch, then after you start up you can see the running voltage. No more amp meters for me. 🧑‍🌾
