IH 184 MOWER SWAP

I have two IH 184 tractors. Tractor 1 has the 3-point hitch with a Woods mower. Tractor 2 has no 3-point hitch and an IH 3160A mower. The IH mower on tractor 2 is in excellent condition but the tractor needs work. The Woods mower on tractor 1 is rusted through but the tractor is excellent. What is involved in switching out the mowers? I would like the 3160A on tractor 1 that has the 3-point hitch. However, the mounting for the 3160A does not seem to be similar to the current Woods setup?

I do not know you tell us you have both of them sitting in front of you, just to send a little poke your direction. It sounds like you are thinking about just swapping the decks, which I think you are finding out probably will not work. The ..mower.. is the deck, the drive and all parts that connect it to the tractor. I do not know a lot about those little jobs IH built but I believe two tractors of the same model would have identical equipment mount holes. The only thing that may be an issue is if the 3 point is using a bolt hole that the 3160 is using to bolt on to tractor 2 that has no 3 point. That is probably not a complete deal stopper because there is probably a way to modify that mount or acquire a mount for that position for a 3 point tractor which may prove difficult. Take some pictures of both and unbolt the Woods mower that you do not intend to use. Then remove the 3150 from tractor 2. You will probably want to disconnect the deck by whatever means that takes first leaving just whatever brackets there are still on the tractor. Then unbolt the 3160 brackets and drive and place the parts on the ground or floor directly below where you unbolted them, maybe even take a picture as you pull each part off. When you get down to the last piece walk it over to tractor 1 and bolt it on. Then continue the reverse the process bolting everything for the 3160 on tractor one. Now when you are all done you will definitely be able to tell us what is involved. Happy Fathers Day if it applies!

You can't just swap decks without some major modifications (cutting and welding) on the deck. It still might not work right because the Woods deck is designed to run 1 belt while the IH deck runs 2 or 3 (can't remember offhand).

You need to remove all of the Woods parts off tractor 1, then transfer all the IH parts from tractor 2 to tractor 1. If the 3pt is in the way you may have to remove it. There may have been specific mounting parts for tractors with 3pt at one time, but you would never be able to find those parts these days.

Everything should bolt right on.

The 3160A is an IH deck for the numbered series Cub Lo-Boys. I would think if you got a manual for the 3160A, it would tell you what you need to know.
