IH 2150 Paint

Has anyone used the dealer paint Red IH 2150 Paint with/without hardner? and what kind of primer did you use? is this a good paint to use? I am repainting a Super A and have stripped off the paint using paint stripper and a wire brush in a grinder and drill, I am going to clean the metal with Laquer thinner. I have not painted yet but just in the process of cleaning and need some advice? The tractor will be used some and will be keep in my shop most of the time and maybe taken to the local tractor show from time to time. I wanted a decent paint job that will last and not fade to bad without spending an arm and a leg? any advice would be helpful?

I am no expert on IH 2150. Last I knew it was made by Valspar and was Alkyd Enamel. My time is too valuable to use that cheap stuff. If you can get it in Acrylic enamel with correct reducer and hardner that would be suitable.

I have had good resaults with Case IH Iron guard paint using Krylon Implement hardner and reducer mixed 8-1-1

I recently come across Kyrylon in a rattle can in Ford blue while walking around a parts store waiting for my order. I bought it and used it to paint an upper link and I can say without a doubt it's the best paint product I have ever used.
Krylon is available in most tractor colors.
This paint is a primer and paint in one product which is what you want.
As a licensed automotive painter I say forget the primers and hardners for a tractor.
Primers are meant for the auto collision business because of it filling capabilities.
You want something that covers well and dries fast and bonds to metal.
If you tell me what your painting I can tell you how much paint you will need.
And if your using those old suction fed guns from the 1980's your wasting material and damaging your health with the overspray they produce.
Use a gravity gun instead.
1 quart of Krylon should paint a small to medium sized tractor.
1 base coat (let dry 20 minutes), 1 finish coat.

Krylon farm and implement paint is alkyd enamel, it is very low cost so it is perfect for applying when the prep job consists of no more than a ten minute pressure washing, and the intent is to quickly and cheaply make a tractor look better for a quick sale. It is WWII vintage technology, and It is not at all durable and fades quickly. It will provide a satin type of finish as opposed to glossy, and will quickly become more dull. Gasoline spills will attack it. A quart of it will cover a small to medium sized tractor with a very light first coat. A minimum of three quarts will be required. A good quality primer is needed if it is desired that the Krylon will adhere for longer than a month. The automotive primers that are applied for filling capabilities are the "high build primers" They are not direct to metal. They require a base primer. Alkyd enamels are known to take days to dry, and weeks to harden, and can be very frustrating to work with. The gravity gun pictured is preferred not so much as gravity type but as an HVLP type if you should look for one. HVLP stands for High Volume Low Pressure.
