IH 37 baler

Then farmer that bales my hay is retiring and has offered to sell me his IH 37 baler. It looks good and does bale but one side the knotter goofs up about every fourth bale and does not tie. What is the baler worth and is the knotting problem something that can be cured. If I had a lot of hay to bale I would buy a newer baler. I have about 5 acreas. Any input would be helpfu.

I have a 37 baler and use it for alot of my second cutting. When I got it it didn"t tie at all but with some work I can bale 100 bales and it will miss 2 or 3 bales. If given the choice I would take a new holland baler, but the 37 bales what I need for now. I gave 500 for mine about 12 years ago.

I got one last summer that had been sitting, but covered, for about 25 years. I greased and oiled it up and baled about 600 bales with it last year and it never missed a bale. I was using 9000 sisal twine. On Saturday, a neighbor needed some hay baled and I had no twine on hand but he had some 7200 sisal. It would miss one out of every 20 bales or so using this twine. I'm going to get some 9000 and try in it because it sure didn't have that problem last year.
I paid $350 for mine. Mechanically it's pretty decent, paint is quite faded from sitting outside.

I've got a model 46 baler and I like it. I'd recommend getting a manual as I have had problems with mine before and found the answers in the manual. One of the biggest problems with mine is it will loose the springs for the hay retainers rather easily and when that happens it won't tie very well. I don't know if the 37 is set up the same.
