I HAVE A 1967 GAS BURNER 424 INTERNATIONAL. IT SEEMS EVERY YEAR I HAVE PROBLEMS WITH THE PTO. IT WILL NOT STAY IN GEAR AND KEEPS BRAKING PARTS. HAS ANYONE ELSE HAD THIS PROBLEM?
THANKS,
ERP

What are you doing with it. Possibly binding the shaft on a turn or lifting a pto driven implement too high? Either will put additional strain on the pto. It is reasonably bullet proof if adjusted properly and not strained/overworked.

The PTO engagement lever can get bent where it does not put the PTO in full engagement. This can cause breakage or rounding off of the cogs in there.
Also not fully disengaging the 2 stage clutch before engageing or disengageing will cause early failure.

If it wont stay in gear, the problem may be the valve itself. I had to take my neighbors apart and emery-cloth the spool to remove the scores, and scratches. It works great now.

I don't think the 424 has hydraulics involved with the PTO. I think it is like the 444 and all mechanical with a 2 stage clutch. But I could be wrong.
