Ih 460 diesel utility

Just bought a 58 460 diesel utility. How many of them were made? Been sitting in this shed for decades. Covered up had a blown head gasket and was never fixed. Says it has 615 hrs on it. Would like to know as much info on it as possible!

There was about 11,400 made, but how many were diesel,not sure.Its got the same engine as a 560 but smaller pistons, but must of been run hot to kill the head gasket, with those few hours,but your going to have to see why it blew,Other than that cant tell you much,does it have 3 point and Live PTO,and power steering, would be a plus,maybe you can get a donor 310 and put in there!!

it just hit me, it was a shorter stroke, engine, the bore was the same as 560 !!

Does it have manuals with it? If not recommend getting them all , to reference.
Hour meters arent a good way judge anything but what they read.
Tire wear and clutch/brake pedal diamond wear are much better diagnostic.
Id , have one of our fine Diesel techs give you tips what to do next. Not sure if Id rotate the engine until youre sure the pump shafts can rotate , cost less to ask how to do this.
Change all the fluids.

As far as the number given by Fast that is total production throughout the years of 58 to 63. All thought for 58 about 2200 were produced. I am fairly sure there are no records of how many were gas and how many were diesel either for the year or total production. If you are going for the ..rarity factor.. the total number is usually what is referred to for that and I am sure through those years at least 3000 diesel models were built so they are not necessarily rare.

Since is has a blown head gasket hopefully the coolant was drained so it did not leak into the cylinders and lock up the pistons. Just FYI, I believe you have a 450 as well, so you may know this. As far as trying to free the engine if it is locked, if this tractor has a working TA when it is in the ..Direct.. or lever forward position it will not allow the engine to turn backwards.
I will also link the manufacturers online parts catalog. In the General section there is info on the meaning of the letter suffixes stamped after serial number.
