IH 464 cylinder head

Hello

I'm looking for a new cylinder head for my
464 with the D-179 engine as the current
one has a crack somewhere in the exhaust
port of the number 1 cylinder. The casting
number on my head is 3055048R3, I've found
another head that I'm told came off a 484
with the D-179 but the casting number on
this is 3055048R4.
Is there any difference between my R3 head
and the R4 off the 484 that means it won't
work? Also the numbers stamped in the front
left corner of the head are different
between the two but mine are hard to read
under the injection lines.

I general the number following the R at the end of an IH part number signifies a revision or update to the part. A higher number indicates a later revision. Later revisions can replace earlier ones so if everything I am saying is correct that head should work for your tractor. A R3 part may not be able to fit a machine that was built to an R4 spec, but it could just depends on what exactly the update did to the parts configuration. Please do not take my word, whoever is selling the head should be able to give you that information and stand behind it.
