IH 464 neutral safety switch

Yes there is supposed to be one.
Remove the kick panel directly above
where the clutch pedal drops down
from. Look around the pedal pivot
pin area and you'll see a small
finger off of the pedal arm. This is
what strikes the switch pin which
was mounted just a bit more forward.
A lot of times, the switch would go
bad and the 2 wires going to it were
tied together effectively bypassing
the switch.

Hello dieselherb welcome to YT! I see cr has replied
informing you about a clutch safety switch when you
asked about a neutral safety switch. Two different
things but the clutch switch effectively serves the
same purpose. Unless you are used to all other
tractors you operate having a neutral switch then your
mind tells you it is in neutral so you quickly let off the
clutch after starting and the machine lurches on you
unexpectedly. I do not know if you expect to start the
machine while not in the operators seat holding down
the clutch, if that is your intention I will advise you that
is not a real safe practice. I will also say the preacher
can not tell you he practices what he is preaching a
100 percent of the time.

I am giving the tractor to my daughter, she has small children. I'm concerned about starting tractor while not holding clutch down or in a neutral position.
