I purchased an IH 504 gas powered tractor about a week ago. It was running well until yesterady.
It seems I cannot shift into any gear while the engine is running. However, if I shut the engine off, I can cycle through the gears just fine. If I select a gear while the tractor is shut off, and start the tractor, the tractor moves. If I now try to switch to another gear while the tractor is running and I depress the clutch, it sounds like a very high pitched noise and a lot of vibration (it sounds like something is free spinning at high rpms), and I cannot select any gear unless I shut the tractor off again. I know it all sounds confusing. Any suggestions? Perhaps the clutch is slipping? A loose belt? Any direction would be appreciated. Please help. Please drop me an email here in facebook. Thanks
