ih 504 utility engine swap

What engine are you proposing to install? Or is that the
purpose of your post to find what engine with sleeves
will fit? What do you use the tractor for? Assuming you
are needing to overhaul the engine, if you bored the
engine and installed oversize pistons do you think you
are going to wear it out in your lifetime to were it would
need rebuilt again? Maybe a rod has came out the side
and you need to replace the engine anyway.

i was just asking if any body has done it , theres nothing wrong with my original 504 motor , only has 1200 hours on it , i think i seen a post a long time back that you could use a ih 300 and 350 tractor motor and it will bolt right up with a few modifications, if i can get a good motor out of a 350 then i can rebuild that because it has sleeves compaired to the 504 motor , no sleves , then i can keep it on the engine stand until i need to replace the original .

A C-135 from a 330 or 340 might "bolt right up with a few modifications". It might not either. A C-135 from a 404 or a power unit would not. I would expect an engine from a 300 or 350 to turn into a mess.

If you want a near bolt-in engine on hand, you probably should find another C-153 and rebore it if needed.

The 350 engine is from a longer taller tractor with near zero clutch end compatibility. Other engines that would be easier, are smaller. Yours
can be bored out and sleeved any time. The process is not cheap, but often done. Another simple solution is to purchase another 504 engine and
make it new. Then wait till it is needed then swap. Very few cars are (none that are current offerings) have replaceable sleeves. Jim

a person could have the original engine rebuild as fast or faster than screwing around trying to put an engine in a tractor that was not made for it not to mention all the machining and parts wasted that could be ( the money) used towards rebuilding the one that is in the tractor
there's nothing wrong with boing a sleeveless block- its done everyday with car engines. yours may not need boring at 1200 hours or double that

Depending on your age ,use of tractor and the few hours on it in the last 40 years I would look for something better to do. If you are older than about 50 and don't use it everyday then it will most likely out last you as is. We had a Case 830 that had 23 or 2400 hours on it when it went down the road. Ran fine and didn't use oil was a good tractor just didn't need it and traded it and a 930 for a 4WD model when it left. So as a putter tractor you would be whizzing in the wind ti have a newly redone engine setting around in a shed. As it would probably be set up by the time you needed it. A newly machined engine block with new parts can set up pretty fast with no running to keep it limber.

i was just wondering if anyone ever did it with the 504 , alot of people say its undered power, probabaly like anything else, today price to rebuild the 504 engine would be threw the roof

How much do you use this thing? With only 1200 hours that tractor should outlast your grandchildren if you maintain it.

The 504 engine CAN be rebuilt, even if it's bored out to maximum overbore and has been worn out again. A machine shop can press in repair sleeves and bore the engine back to standard.

i bought it with 1000 hours on it a few years ago , i use it about 3 -4 times a week mowing , and discing , theres nothing wrong with the motor now , i was just wondering if anybody ever switched a motor in this tractor before
