IH 574 gasoline. Carburetor problems

The carburetor is an original Marvel Schebler TSX 989. It has the solenoid for anti-dieseling. There appear to be parts missing. Tractor will start but will not run properly and stalls after running for a bit. I wonder if eliminating the solenoid might be the answer but cannot seem to find the manual high speed needle. The long needle which should be attached to the solenoid is missing as well as some other parts. An option is a rebuilt carb or changing to a new Zenith.
Some folks with similar problems have just replaced the solenoid with a threaded bolt. I am lost. Would like to repair the carb I have. Dave

Call McDonald Carb and Ignition. I know they have the parts to replace some solenoids with the manual adjustable components.

I have seen very many of the needles cut off on those solenoids. Should not affect running performance. High speed jet is located in the solenoid bore of carb and is none adjustable. Starting and stalling is a indication of fuel not getting to the carb. With the tank behind the seat and long fuel line you should remove the line at the shut off valve at the tank and at the carb and blow it out. Then before connecting the line, open the shut off valve and let about a quart or so of fuel drain into a clean bucket and look for debris and make sure you have full flow of fuel, then connect the line at the valve and unhooked at the carb and should get the same amount of flow. Also make sure the cross over line on the tank is open.

The carburater is about the same as a Farmall M ah?

That’s a very long stretch on that “about”, his is a MS, the M carb is IH built. His tractor has a throttle shaft that is perpendicular to the cylinder head long axis, an M has a throttle shaft parallel to the cylinder head. They might be flowing similar CFM. The anti-dieseling solenoid was nearly only a dream when they built the first M’s in ‘39. Although they did later install them on IH built carbs of nearly the same design on a variety of engines.
