Sounding like the water pump on my 806 engine is going out. Never had to change it on one of these so anyone know of a "preferred" pump or supplier. Also anyone have thoughts on new vs. reman?? Thanks,

Gary

Well yea we have changed out some over the years of working on them . Just did a 1206 two years ago . Now since i have given up the shop and somewhat semi retired i no longer am a Hy Cap dealer so i got one off my old buddy's son as he is a Hy Cap and A I dealer now and with out digging thru invoices from two years ago i believe it COST ME like 165 bucks I know Case I H wanted like 460 some bucks . Now to change out the water pump on a 806 ya got to pull the radiator . First remove the hoses , next the fan shroud then the fan . Four bolts on the side of the rad that run thru the shock mounts then straight up once the shroud is removed then the shroud can come out then the fan blade then four bolts hold the pump in . No gskt just a O/RING on the pump . clean up where the O/Ring sets with emery cloth and set the new pump in and reverse the posses . can be done in around a hour .

Gas or diesel?? Tractor vet covered diesel. Gas is a bit different. The fan is not mounted on the water pump bearing. If the fan bearing is wobbly your water pump may be ok. You did not mention if it is leaking antifreeze

Well if it is a diesel and more the likely it is then your one hick up and sneeze away form buying a new rad. . The one tractor i NEVER liked in gas was the 806 . Why , because when it was wore out it was not a matter of and inchassis rebuild it was a trip to the machine shop for a rebuild and rebore as the days of the machine shop coming to you to do a inchassis crank regrind or a engine rebore have long since gone like the DOO DOO BIRD . I remember the days when old Evert would load up the portable crank grinder into the old Ford 100 van and drive out to a farm and grind a rod jornel in the tractor or do a total bore job . Take him a half a day . Now if ya want to see just how fast a tank of the OLD REAL gas from days gone by a long time ago just put a 806 gas doing work can drain a tank . A C 291 is NOT a Pinto but when they were new they ran ok and it did not require a loan from the bank to get field work done . I personally ran a c 291 in a 706 and i pulled a four bottom 16 inch 710 I H plow every year but one and that year i ran a 1805 Massey 3208 with a turbo pulling 8 -18 bottoms and did what use to take me four evenings with the 706 to do and did it in one evening . Now i did not have nice huge fields to play in as many were three to five acres with one a shade over 10 . with a total of 68 acres . I used less fuel gallon wise plowing and discing those acres in less time . It was fun and that 3208 with straight pipe i am not sure how the sound traveled thru the valley but she was talking load and proud . Even on the ten acre field it seamed like i just got the plow in the ground leaned on the throttle and was lifiting the plow at the other end and making the turn . I never had enough ground o jump up another gear.

Kinda figured it was diesel but just threw it out there. Still know of two gassers in this area, ya they love to drink gas. Never understood why IH put that huge cast iron valve cover on that engine, just to make it look bigger that the 706 I guess😳
