Ih 966 fuel line

I read on another forum that the line between the filters and the injector pump on a 966 must be the case ih part number 688190c1 hose to dampen the pulsation from the injector pump or it will ruin the head seals on the pump. This tractor has a hydraulic hose instead and not the case ih hose. Does anyone know this to be true? Would like to know so i can fix it right. Also does anyone know the part number for the copper washer under the tab? Pump is leaking from there. Thank you.

You should be able to find the PNs of the copper washers in the CNHI parts catalog in the link. CNHI IH D414 engine catalog I am not real familiar with those pump setups so your “tab” description doesn’t ring any bells. Don’t know if you tried this, but to bring up the engine you need to insert the “hyphen” D-414 when typing it in the “Search Parts Catalog”box. I see you got an answer on the “pulse dampening hose” on AgTalk.

I don't know if that is true or not. I know our 1466 and the 4166 both have hoses from the filters to the injection pump. Never have had either of them off while we have owned them yet. As for the pulsation Never heard that before. Then there are a lot of things like that I never heard of.

Unless the supply pump relief valve is sticking I doubt the hose type would make much difference, I know there are several tractors in my area with the lower pressure hydraulic hoses on them when the original hose died. The working fuel pressure range on that pump is Usually 40/60 PSI. The later pumps do not use that hydraulic head locating tab/screw/washers arrangement anymore either, so I eliminate that tab on pumps I repair and use the screw and the thicker copper washer and Loctite on the screw so it stays in place.

I don't see why it would pulse, unless the fuel is pumped through the secondary filter by a piston.
The pulsing is caused by the High pressure side of the injection pump system when the metering sleeve opens the hydraulic head plunger port at end of injection and the surge of high pressure is released into the fuel gallery area that the gear pump supplies and keeps full of fuel.
