Can anyone identify the loader in this picture. I just bought a 340 with the same loader sans the hydraulic bucket. I need to rebuild the cylinders and I would like to know what parts I need. Additionally, it appears that the hydraulic bucket is a bolt on item, can anyone give me any more info on that also.

Chuck Model 34, could be 34A. 34 was specifically designed for Utility tractors. Farmalls used the 33 and in the case with hydraulic bucket it was called 33A. Farmall is the one I'm familiar with but those two loaders were the same vintage thus I'm assuming A stands for hydraulic bucket on both.

The main difference between 33 and 34 was the full length sub frame from rear axle to front bolster on the 34. 33 didn't have that. Also on loader lift arms 33 was a major pipe on bottom with webing and a 1" bar on top, 34 uses two pipes same size top and bottom with webing in between, as your loader is. I forget the excat specs but 34 had a bit more lift capacity than the 33. 34 was a much better built loader than 33.

Thanks Hugh. Do you have any more info? was it a IH loader or was it made by someone else? I did a quick search and I really couldn't find any info on the model 34.

Chuck: The 33 loader was on the market for awhile before the 34. My dad bought a 33A about 1956 and within months the 34 was available. We had a Farmall 300 and were not very happy with the 33A. Two neighboers later had Utility tractors with 34 loaders and they were much better at lifting the heavy load. In the end the IH dealer installed 34 cylinders on our 33A loader. It didn't help much, I expect the mechanical leverage was different on the two loaders.

My dad got a decent buy on a used Cockshutt 540 with a Wagner loader. This left our 300 free for field work, no loader hanging out there while doing field work, after that we never gave the IH loaders much attention. The 34 does have some resemblance to a Wagner. I can also remember almost exclusively Wagner loaders on IH Utilities before the 34 loader became available. Beyond that I'm not very familiar with the 34.

Hugh thanks again for the info. I was able to traack down some more info. It was actually called the U-34A. I ordered the manual from Bookbinders. That will at least give me a start. It may have actually been made for IH by Wagner as it does resemble their loaders of that era.

Chuck, I didn"t know what the no was, but we had a loader just like that on a Utility 330. We carried thousands of round bales made with a 605A Vemeer 1 on the front and 1 on the back some times as far as a mile and a half. It is avery tough loader. I had a Ford loader made by Swartz on a 400D, Super M, then a 544 and it was wielded all over before I got rid of it. As far as the 330 I hated that tractor, but it had to be tought because we did abuse it badly. We traded it the loader and a 230 for a 756D in 1981.
