IH Loadstar 1600 2 Speed Install

I had to remove the Eaton 2 speed off my 74 IH Loadstar and have it rebuilt, the motor was wore out, bearing was shot, and i just got it back with a new molded gasket. I went to put everything back on today and discovered something is not right, Stamped on the gasket it says "Bottom Single Axle" and the other end says "Bottom Tandem" Mine is a single axle but if i put that end at the bottom the bolt holes won't line up, however they will line up if I put the Tandem side down, which is backwards.

Other issue is trying to get the rubber boot on the shaft, i did everything i knew to do but it will not slide down on the 2 speed shifter shaft, i even removed the metal ring off of it and it was still no better. I've either got the wrong rubber gasket or I'm not doing something right. Anyone on here ever had this problem??

Warmth and LUBE should help with installing it over the shift arm.

Put it on like it's marked, it's RUBBER and flexible, the bolt holes WILL line up if you get rough with it.

There's supposed to be 10-weight oil on the actuator side vs. the heavy gear oil on the axle side, but the rubber "diaphragm" you are playing with typically doesn't seal 100% and the shift unit works better with the light oil so it doesn't hurt to take the cover off and clean the heavy oil out and put light oil back in every few years.

GOOD LUCK, this ain't "rocket surgery".
