Are the 45 IH McCormick balers knotter's the same as the #46 IH McCormick balers (square)

Not sure, but I would like to know. IH seemed to use billhooks on various balers, which all look very very similar, but are they the same?

Best way is to compare parts numbers from the OEM Parts Manual for both balr numbers, available at dealer. Tom

Had a look online. The 45 Baler does not appear on the CNH Parts Catalog, but I have a 45 book. Found that:
45 Baler
FRAME, Knotter with WEARING PIECE 495965R93
46 Baler
FRAME, with WEARING PIECE 495965R94
45 Baler Billhook is 495420R12
46 Baler Billhook is 495420R23
Cord Holder Drive Shaft is identical on both balers: 495433R1

I just know we had a 46 and was told they are entirely different and that is why the 46 would bale while the 45 would not and that about killed McCormick sales in the eastern USA. At the time we had that 46 and about 35 years ago you could not give away a 45.

If I remember correctly, if the part number is the same and the number after the R changed, it was a minor change. I remember comparing the radiator for my 560 with a salvage yard radiator and the R91? increased to R92. The change was the filler neck for radiator cap. I would suspect knotter parts would be the same, minor changes each digit increase.
