IH plowshare/shin

Ok so I fixed my Dearborn, well ordered parts and realized how worn it was. My next question is where can I get the plow shins that accompany this plow? It has 2 sides and the one on mine broke. most I see are just a front shin where as this one is next to the moldboard but wraps around by the landside as well? This plow stuff has been driving me crazy.

Oh yeah, Sorry shoud've cleared that up. I replaced the parts on my dearborn. This is another plow I have that I want to get fixed up just to work the H and Super M at times. It has good shares and the shins were nice but one cracked and now I'm in the market for a new one.

Looks like you have new shins and need landslides. Maybe a machine shop can build and/or weld the old ones up if you don't find replacement parts.

Do you know how they attach? I for the life of me cant figure it out. I haven't completely torn into it yet but I will tomorrow. I would have the one rewelded but when it cracked half of it is on the plow the other half is in the 5 acres I plowed last year.

I don't think IH made many of that style. Hard to find replacement parts. Coulters are faced wrong way. I do have parts for IHC plows. email open Thanks Steve

Can't get your email. Mine is listed here. I did end up fixing everything on this plow. This is the only pic I have that shows the shins. I need one shin so it's usable again. I thought about maybe making one but I doubt I could get it perfect.

This is a very confusing thread.

You mention a dear borne plow, and an IHC plow.

You talk about repalcing some broken part, but its a shin, a bottom, a landslide, I really don't know.

You say this s a picture of the broken part, but the shins look great in the pic.

You say the broken part got lost in the field, but clearly this plow has not seen any dirt in its rusty and set up wrong condition, so you couldn't possibly have lost anything plowing 5 acres with these pictures.

I still don't even know if we are talking about a dear borne plow or an IHC plow....

Just smiling at this, not complaining or putting you down. I'm just really confused. ;)

Looks like a #8 little genius. 10 yrs ago I got plow parts for my lil genius at tractor supply. They had shins, landslides, mold boards, shares and bolts.
I don,t remember if they were plow chief or super chief?

If we're talking IH, there were 3 or 4 or so of the older-style bottoms that used shins.

Shin p/n's may be different between different widths of bottoms. There were some with CP_____ p/n's, some with PO_____ p/n's, and some with ________R_ p/n's. Some bolted through the face of the shin, some bolted to the side of the frog.

I'll dig a book out tonight.

It has been a few years since I changed a set of landslides. It is easier if you change them while the shins are off. I think one plow bolt (and the head will be un-noticeable being worn smooth) and one latch-like attachment part of the back of the landslide.

Hahaha sorry paul. The dearborn i was talking about was an earlier post i had on here. This is the only picture I have of the plow and was before i fixed it up. I tend to type faster then i think and don't realize I confuse everyone along the way. My bad all.

Not a problem at all, enjoy your messages and the back and forth help. :) all in good humor.

This is an example of that style of shin. These are IH chilled shins for a horse-drawn plow though. Left one is what you would see looking at the moldboard, right one shows the side view with the bolt hole. This one uses a single bolt through the side of the frog.

There should be a number on the back side of your shin. If not, there should be numbers on your share, landside, or moldboard that would help find the shin part number.
