IH Power Units

I am helping a farmer friend clean out some of his barns and he has two complete IH power units that he wants to get rid of. One is a B55 power unit (S/N: 696, Cub sheet metal) with a flat belt pulley and the other is a Y69 power unit (Farmall A sheet metal, magneto below the carb) with a gear reducer and 540 PTO coupling. Both of these engines were running several years ago and are free (I tried cranking both of them). Does anyone know of what the value of these would be in their condition? I'm thinking somewhere around $400-$500 each.

I'm not sure what the larger would be equal to, but it isn't a tractor engine. All of the A (and B and C) engines had the carb on the opposite side of the mag.

It sounds like it wouldn't take much to get them running. I would probably get them both going. He will double his money as soon as they start.

The carb vs. mag location is what threw me off at first but it took some digging on Google images to figure out what it actually is. It would probably fire up with some minor tinkering but neither of us really have the time to mess with them right now.

The Massey Harris Pony used the Y62 engine not the Y69, The latter was used on IH 62 and 52 combines and on the IH 50 balers.
An earlier version of the Y69 without the IH panels was used on the IHC 60 and 61 combines.
The U-1 Cub engine was used also on the 52 combine and the balers as an alternative to the Y69 engines.

Neither has starter and dont run so maybe 50-100 running ones here bring 150 or so also does the Cub have a clutch the Cont doesent

I purchased a similar baler engine, not running, not stuck, with the mag and carb in place for $180 at an equipment consignment auction a couple years ago. Lots of good engine parts for a Cub.

The Y69 looks as if it came of a 52R combine or 50T baler as it has the magneto below the carburetor.
The Y69 for the 62 combine has an accessory drive on the front so that the magneto is on the other
side of the engine. The same accessory drive appears to be used on the older engines for the 60 and 61 combines.
